Biography

Barbara Simone born in Bari on November 16, 1981, lives and works in between Bari, Bisceglie and Molfetta in Apulia, in southern Italy.

Designer and Graphics. After graduating from school, at the age of 18 she moved to Florence where she graduated in Industrial Design and Communication at I.S.I.A in Florence, an experimental State University born in Italy in the 1950s, inspired by the Bauhaus.

The university's teaching experience based on artistic teaching and the design of objects of use affects it's artistic vocation in the manual use of the most varied materials, in search of new figurations in collages and assemblages. Works based on recycled materials of the most disparate origins: newspaper clippings, cardboard labels, metal finds, bolts, keys, pins, screws, including rusty screws and mechanical parts of watches. In addition to material collages on wood, the same dreamlike, surreal, romantic dimension is also found in digital collages.

My Vision

Everything revolves around the search for a harmonious composition in which the elements must agree with each other.

In a historical period where everyone usually throws obsolete objects, I collect them.

Thus a rusty nail becomes the stem of a flower, bolts like birds, the broken hook of a hanger is the question mark of a question. This shows that each apparently insignificant element has its value and that the context is stronger than the element itself.

In semiotics we talk about the object of its signifier (the name) and its meaning. One thing is not independent of the other because by convention we are used to deciphering our world with these schemes. But if an object is repositioned in another context, in addition to changing its meaning, it changes its own nature and therefore loses its original function to take on another. That's why a button can become: "a moon" among paper clouds.

And this is my personal world view.
